Film Legends: Akira Kurosawa
Born in Tokyo, Japan on the 23rd of March 1910, Akira Kurosawa is considered one of the biggest figures in the film industry and a notable influence to western filmmakers such as George Lucas, Francis Ford Coppola and Steven Spielberg.

His career started in 1936 as an assistant director. Kurosawa was taken under the wing of director Kajiro Yamamoto, who promoted him to chief assistant director within a year. His first film as a director was Drunken Angel in 1948 and was the first of many collaborations with actor Toshiro Mifune. His international breakthrough came with Rashomon in 1950, a movie that won him the top prize at the Venice Film Festival and opened the gates of the Western to Japanese films.

The following years he worked on Ikiru(1952); Seven Samurai (1954), his first "proper samurai film" regarded by some as the greatest Japanese film ever made; and Throne of Blood (1957), an adaptation of Shakespeare's Macb

Goodbye 2012 - Big FeatureOne more year is almost over....
For me it was a pretty normal year, neither really good nor really bad. But in regard to Photography it was a great year for me.
I got my first DSLR Camera and i even earned some money with my photos. I love taking photos and i hope that this will stay the same next year.
Within this year i got over 1800 watchers and that really means a lot to me. Thank you so much ! ♥
For now i have some amazing photos from 2012 for you, i am sorry that the Feature got so long, but there where so many amazing photos that i just couldn't stop.
 I hope that all of you will have an amazing year 2013 !

Photography Trouble Shooting: LightingRecently during a #projecteducate week focusing on Still Life Photography we asked for you to share the issues that you might have when trying to obtain some great Still Life Shots. Through this series of articles we hope to answer some of the queries or give you that push you need to step outside boundaries and get creative. The first frustration came from *1510 who struggled with Lighting additionally a further 19 Deviants voted on the poll to indicate they had the same issues.

"*1510 lamps and natural light are a perfectly good way of lighting a subject. Many 'professional' lighting solutions, particularly the ones that burn 'hot' or constantly, are not much more than high wattage incandescent light bulbs often with some sort of cooling (to prolong the lifespan of the bulb).

Beta Launch: Film, deviantART muro in Sta.shHello everyone! 
Today we're bringing you some major changes for Film & Animation deviations, and also some new tools for deviantART muro and Sta.sh Writer!
Film Improvements
Film submission through Sta.sh
The first major change for Film is that Sta.sh is now properly equipped to support film submissions! While it was sort of possible in the past, Sta.sh can now store and submit film files the same way other filetypes can be stored and submitted.
Keep in mind that you have to have film submission privileges in order to submit films to deviantART. For more information on this, please read this FAQ: :faq842:
Film Deviation Page Changes
The second change is regarding the layout of film deviations. The old film layout was designed with an older version of deviantART in mind, and this change places Film submissions back up to speed with the rest of the site. The Film deviation page has been updated to
Prints Integration on Deviation PagesUPDATE, October 1: This feature has now been rolled out to an additional set of deviants outside of the Beta Testing program. If you'd like to be the first to try out new features like this one, upgrade to a Premium Membership and enable Beta Testing in your Account Settings.

Today we're bringing you an easier way to purchase art on deviantART! When viewing a deviation that is enabled as a Print, you'll be met with a sleek new menu that is designed to be simple and straightforward.

We've moved the Prints functionality from its own separate page and placed it within the deviation page, to help artists sell more of their work, and to reduce friction for buyers looking to purchase art they love.

During August, the first #FeedbackFrenzy came to a close - over 160 participants and 40 teams wrote almost 2,000 critiques. I was blown away by the effort everyone put in, and the size the contest came to!! I am so honoured to have been involved of the organisation and coordination of such an event :D
